Constellations: Papa Mau Piailug referred to the hōkū in the heavens as his hoa (friends). Building a relationship with them is just one of the ways we hope to establish a kāhua (foundation) for young ho‘okele (navigators). In our Hawaiian world view, the hōkū played an important role in our daily lives. They held the stories of our kūpuna, foretold the future, and continue to guide us today. Through this Pahu Waiwai, we hope your keiki will begin to develop this pilina (relationship) with their hoa in the lewa (heavens).
