The Kumulipo is a 2,000 line chant that tells the Hawaiian creation story. Starting from darkness the chant recounts the birth of all things in Hawaiʻi. Prior to Charles Darwin, Hawaiians possessed an intricate understanding of how life on Earth progressed through the ages, realizing our relationship to each and every aspect of our environment.
