Not only are volcanoes a prominent geological feature here in Hawai‘i, but also the sacred home of the volcano goddess Pele. Her journey from Kahiki (Tahiti) is documented in traditional oli (chants) and mele (songs). Pele’s power to destroy and beauty to create, makes her both admired and revered.
