Share the awe and wonder of volcanoes with your keiki with the Lua Pele Pahu Waiwai!

Not only are volcanoes a prominent geological feature here in Hawai‘i, but also the sacred home of the volcano goddess Pele. Her journey from Kahiki (Tahiti) is documented in traditional oli (chants) and mele (songs). Pele’s power to destroy and beauty to create, makes her both admired and revered. With these activities, we hope to build your keiki’s interest in lua pele and grow a new appreciation for this geological phenomenon.

This pahu waiwai (resource box) includes materials curated by the kumu (teacher) of Kūlaniākea to perpetuate ʻike kūpuna (ancestral knowledge) starting with our kūpuna (ancestor) in training, our keiki (child, offspring, descendent).
