Ke Pānānā Hawaiʻi: A Voyage in Your Hands
Bring the celestial wisdom of the Pacific into the hands of the next generation with Ke Pānānā Hawaiʻi. This exclusive collaboration between Kulaniakea, the Polynesian Voyaging Society (PVS), and the artisans at Little And Wood is more than a model, it is an interactive gateway to the stars.
Interactive Wayfinding for Keiki
Unlike traditional flat maps, this 3D Star Compass is designed for tactile learning and discovery. At the heart of the compass sits the Manuiwa (the Great Frigatebird), a symbol of guidance and navigation.
- Dynamic Learning: The compass features a smooth, rotating mechanism that allows children to spin the bird.
- The Nuku (Beak) Guide: Young navigators can point the nuku of the bird toward various hale (houses) within the star compass, mimicking how real wayfinders track the rising and setting of celestial bodies.
- Tactile Connection: By physically moving the bird through the houses, children develop a deep, intuitive understanding of the Hawaiian Star Compass system.
Sustainable Craftsmanship
- Every element of Ke Pānānā Hawaiʻi reflects a deep respect for the environment and the heritage of the voyaging community:
- Earth-Friendly Materials: Crafted entirely from premium, sustainably harvested wood by New Zealand’s Little And Wood.
- Eco-Conscious Packaging: To honor our oceans and the ʻāina, this product features 100% plastic-free, eco-friendly packaging.
Designed & Crafted by Little And Wood (Aotearoa/NZ)
A portion of every sale goes directly to supporting the Polynesian Voyaging Society and their mission to perpetuate the art and science of traditional wayfinding.
Whether for a classroom, a playroom, or a collector’s shelf, Ke Pānānā Hawaiʻi is a timeless tool that honors the journey of our ancestors while inspiring the voyagers of tomorrow.
Navigate your space. Honor the journey. Protect Hawai'i.
